New Interior Design Trends for Window Treatments

Design trends are constantly shifting, but rarely do you see as much of a change as we have seen since the start of 2022. The previous few years have been variations on the same theme: cool neutrals such as gray and minimalist presentations. However, current design trends have gone in almost the opposite direction. Warm colors, primarily earth tones, and a mixture of solid textures are popular now. Decor leans away from minimalism and towards curated collections of items, particularly those with attached meaning. Vintage, heirloom, and even antique items are featured pieces once again. In 2022, comfort and personality are critical features of interior design trends.

Window Treatment Trends, Hunter Douglas Design Studio™ Side Panels and Drapery near Silver Spring, Maryland (MD)

We’ve broken down some of the key elements of current interior designs and paired them with some of our favorite Hunter Douglas window treatments to get your home up-to-date with the latest fashions.

Warm Tones

Warm colors, such as earth tones, have replaced the grays and whites of recent years as the most popular colors for interiors. Window treatments are an easy way to change the color tone of your space. Even in homes with previously trendy gray walls or furniture, updating your shades and curtains to warm tones makes your space automatically feel more up-to-date.

We recommend Designer Roller Shades in bright brown Alustra™ Kami fabric or in All The Rage – Medallion for a pop of mustard yellow.

Texture

A blend of textures is essential for current styles. Toss a fuzzy throw blanket across a linen-covered couch and accent it with a jute rug. Designs that emphasize the natural character of wood are also popular. The texture is often overlooked in interior design, but filling your space with different materials adds interest and on-trend style to your home. Window treatments are an excellent way to add texture to a room, like rustic wood shutters or woven wood shades.

We recommend Provenance Woven Wood Shades in Kathay Wood in Beijing Pecan for a bold texture or in Telluride Grass in Lead Mine for a moody charcoal fabric with an accent of warm wood woven throughout.

Heirloom Appeal

Current interior design fashions are all about telling the story of who you are to your guests. That makes personal items – such as family heirlooms, travel souvenirs, and childhood favorites – key to making your space warm and inviting. Try featuring your grandmother’s quilts as part of your design or displaying your collection of travel mugs inside a vintage crate. With window treatments, you can call to mind the look of vintage and heirloom items by choosing wood shutters or shades and drapes with time-honored fabrics.

We recommend: Design StudioTM Side Panels and Drapery in paisley Oleander Birch for a touch of romance and vintage charm or in Featured Artist Marcie Bronkar’s heirloom embroidery-inspired Grand Fleur in red Cameo.
